Book Review ~ Near Miss by Jeff Shear

Near Miss by Jeff Shear Solid writing let down by an over-complicated, episodic plot... I was torn between giving this book three or four stars and ended up with a vacillating 3.5. But in the end, I rounded up to 4 because of the innate mathematician in me and the quality of the writing. This is a well written, at times interesting, but ultimately rambling, episodic story that turned out to be a little too 'clever' for its own good. No, he's not a Mountie, he's a private detective working out of Lake Tahoe, on the border of Nevada and California. It’s a stunning backdrop to the tale, but more of that later. In this episode, which takes place in the depths of a snowy midwinter, Dan Reno is hunting the killer of two beautiful blonde women. He has a personal interest in [...]

Reader Reviews

  • One great read fab story … twists, turns, page turner after page turner … who says Americans write the best police fiction? Read this – it’s superb. G Williams (Amazon)
  • This story has lots of exciting turns which keeps you guessing and the pace is very fast . I loved the sarcasm and sense of humor of the character of Phil Cryer. The plot of the story was so engrossing and kept me entertained until the last page was turned. I would highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys well written suspense with lots of fast paced action. J E Grace
